Bookings

To book an equine massage, please contact Angela by calling/texting: 0466 077 561, emailing: majestichorse@outlook.com.au or by filling in the Contact Us section. If you have booked and paid by PayPal, please call Majestic Horse Equine Massage and Bodywork to arrange a time and place.

Each Equine Myofunctional Therapy session will include:

  • A discussion with the horse owner regarding your horse’s health, any concerns/questions you may have, lifestyle and work (training/exercise goals), and any specific concerns regarding performance.
  • Gait analysis.
  • Massage treatment tailored to each individual horse (as no two horses are the same).
  • Passive stretching.
  • Recommendations for ongoing management and homework exercises.

Angela works in safe areas only, free from obstructions, and preferably on level/flat ground (so that the horse can stand comfortably and be safely balanced during the passive stretching component of the massage treatment). A work area that is as quiet as possible and free from distractions and unnecessary noise (farm equipment, mowers etc) is also preferable. As is a sheltered area (stable, or stable walkway) for hot, extremely windy, or rainy weather.

What to expect afterwards:

Following the massage, the horse should be gently walked for five to ten minutes to help get everything moving again. This aids with the detoxification process.

Horses should always have access to plenty of fresh water nearby afterwards, as hydration will assist in the elimination of toxins and waste debris from the body. Horses should be allowed recovery time, and a window of at least twenty-four to forty-eight hours without exercise is recommended. This affords the horse time to reap the therapeutic benefits of the massage, while also having time to allow for any potential soreness (as a result of the muscles and tissues being massaged), and any potential lethargy, to diminish. Post massage soreness can last for up to three days afterwards, and lethargy can be evident for a short period of time.

Do NOT administer worming pastes, drugs or medications in the 12 hours following a massage.

Other things to consider:

Massages are best conducted away from feeding times; when the horse’s coat is dry and clean from dirt clumps/mud; and in an area he/she is comfortable with.

For some horses, the first massage can be confusing, as they are not sure exactly what the practitioner is requiring from them. Some will stay alert and curious, while others begin to relax immediately. Some horses will take several massages before they start to show signs of true relaxation. But all of this is valuable feedback and communicates exactly how well the horse is responding to each massage.

As always, Angela is happy to respond to any questions or concerns that you may have before, during or after the massage.
